If I were in school today I would be labeled with an ism...mild autism, attention deficit... Aspergers.... I was held back. Put in remedial math and reading. Yet in 4th grade I was reading high School books.... Teachers saw me as distant. Zoned out. Distracted. I stared out the windows All The Time... I didnt have a learning disability...I wasnt socially awkward....I was BORED!!! Cooped up in a class room while the world outside was bursting with life perplexed me... I couldnt stand the slow pace other kids read aloud at. I cringed when students were called to the blackboard to struggle. Long before No Child Left Behind. I was a child who couldnt get ahead.... To be done with the dumbed down educational prison and out to the real classroom of nature and the world. Instead I was put I the basement and forced to read at my age level and do even more busy work. And because I whipped thru it I was given more. So installed and was labeled slow... Thank god for recess and the walk thru the woods home to normalize. I weep for kid today.
