If Louis van Gaal ends up as the new Manchester United manager, the players should understand that, under him, nothing less than perfection will do. Every ball has to be precise, every tackle well made, every decision thought-through. He is demanding and he constantly tries to get the maximum out of his players, pushing them to meet his very high standards. If those standards are not met, he will let you know about them. He is strict, but that is only because he wants to improve you as a player and, as a result, the team as well. Ultimately, he will make you better if you listen to him. I played for him for a season and a half at AZ Alkmaar and we won the title, which was a big achievement as we are a long way from being the biggest club in Holland. I don’t think Louis van Gaal will have any problem getting to grips with the United dressing room because he has managed to control the Dutch national team and they are full of big name players and egos. He can be very strict, but the way he plays football is nice and I think the Manchester United players will enjoy playing with him. He wants to keep the ball, he wants his players to express themselves on the ball and he wants to attack.
