If My People...part 6 If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 I have dealt with the huge question based on a little two letter word If, what it means to be His people, how unique and powerful the Name of God is and the call to biblical humility & prayer...today we continue to look into this powerful passage and it impact on us and the world we live in. Once again these words were spoken by Solomon at the dedication of the Temple, the words are a challenge and a promise to Israel, and I believe to us in the day we live. The Lord calls us to seek His face... in the English this phrase looses much of its original meaning, we think the face is the physical features that are on the front of our heads. God is Spirit, not physical, so what does this mean to seek His face? The Hebrew word here is paneem, which means presence, it does not mean a physical face. So God has called us, His people, to seek His presence. The other unique aspect of this word is that it is almost always used in the positive sense. When Gods people seek His presence (face), God always responds with blessings and His goodness. Why is seeking His presence so important? It is in His presence that we experience who He is. We are brought to a genuine sense of awe at His holiness, His goodness, His grace, His mercy and His great love. In His presence we are changed...in His presence we cannot help but be changed. There is the purifying work of God in His presence, there is the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, there is the confirmation that we are His and He is ours. Things are put into proper perspective in His presence. His presence changes everything for us and enables us to do what He asks, because in His presence we understand He is not calling us to perform for Him, but trust Him and walk in Him. If our thoughts are not His thoughts, if our desires are not His desires, if our truths are not His truths; then we need to spend some more time in His presence. It is true we can go no where that God is not, the call here clearly is to recognize His presence, desire to spend time in His presence, live in His presence. Lord, today I want to seek your face, your presence is where I want to be. Lord I am learning that everything I need in life not only comes from you but is found in you!
