If a school buys a textbook at $150+ per book and each student - TopicsExpress

If a school buys a textbook at $150+ per book and each student needs 5 or more books then instead of handing out 5 year old textbooks (because us schools cant afford to update their texts every year) Wouldnt it be more cost efficient to develop updated lesson plans and assign one laptop per student. (I dont know why they went with i-pad unless it was a marketing thing with i-pad otherwise tablets running on android OS are cheaper) If public schools worked with a computer company directly they could get a bulk discount and average less than $175 per tablet. I think this is a great way to bridge the gap between the education levels in poverty stricken neighborhoods and affluent ones. Students whos parents work in the evening could still get help with their homework after school even if they have to catch a bus and therefore can not stay late after school.
