"If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife - TopicsExpress

"If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple," (Luke 14:26) Discipleship demands self-donation to God. A disciple gives himself /herself totally and completely to God. A disciple gives himself/herself everything to God. In other words, Jesus wants His disciples be get rid of the hindrances. Hindrances like family. Some parents discourage or hinder a son or daughter who might want to follow the Lord in the priesthood or religious life. It is because they want their son or daughter to help them in sending to school his/her other siblings. Another one is work. Some people are so enslaved with it that they have no time for God, their family, and fellowmen. Jesus is interested with the quality of our discipleship. Jesus does not need fans who simply “like” or appreciate Jesus. He wants us to be his followers; He wants us to be His disciples.
