If found guilty, Del Mastro and McCarthy could each face fines of $1,000 and a year behind bars. A conviction would not stop Del Mastro from running for office again. Seriously?!? THATS the penalty for cheating?!? Were spending tens of thousands of dollars investigating and prosecuting this for the possibility of $1,000 fine and a year in jail?!? WTF??!?! Whats the disincentive to cheating?!? Thats what happens when Parliamentarians get to engage in the obvious conflict of interest of writing the laws and determining the penalties which govern their own behaviour.
