If some of you are surprised that Charlie Hebdo printed the cartoons again then it just goes to show how delusional some Muslims are. When you respond to a confrontation with violence, you lose...simple as that. The best way to respond to the cartoons is to either ignore it or come up with a counter-cartoon showing all the good things Islam has contributed to society. That being said, lets not kid ourselves about the reality of Europe and the history they have with racism. What looks like Islamophobia on the surface is actually a deep rooted anti-immigrant sentiment. A vast majority of visible minorities in Europe are Muslims. Since racism is not tolerated and since its politically incorrect to say go home p*ki or go home n*gger, many right wing political parties and neo-Nazi groups have resorted to Islamophobia and Muslim bashing instead...since Muslims are not a race of people, they feel its perfectly justifiable to bash them and portray them as subhumans. In The Netherlands, the so-called “Party of Freedom” lead by Geert Wilders has already called for all mosques in the Netherlands to be closed and has demanded that Muslim immigration be halted. The reality is Wilders is not against Muslims...rather he just hates non-European people. Proof? Wilders not so long ago got a crowd to chant, “we want less Moroccans” at a political gathering...that should put everything into perspective. In Germany the small anti-Muslim hate movement, Pegida or Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the Occident has been gaining popularity. They have been demonstrating against supposed “foreign infiltration” of German society through Islam (ie. immigrants). It managed to get 18,000 protesters to come out against Muslims in Dresden. Pegida is planning to stage even larger rallies and like Wilders, they call for de-Islamization (ie. kick out all the immigrants) of Europe. From the sounds of things, Europe’s austerity programs are working just as well today as they did in the 1930s. When times get tough, humans get tense. People who can blame problems on scapegoats gain power by exploiting these tensions, and can only keep it by staying one step ahead of the angry mobs they themselves generated. The reason we’re seeing a generalized rise of Islamophobia (anti-immigrant sentiment in other words) in Europe is due to the economic downturn the EU is currently in -- lack of jobs, low pay and high oil costs all makes any population ripe with frustration and anger...and as always, that frustration always leads to finding a scapegoat to blame...in the 1930s it were the Jews of Europe...today its the Muslims of Europe.
