“If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” - TopicsExpress

“If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” Matthew 5:41 (NIV) There are those moments when we feel obligated to do something we do not want to do. It may come down from the boss or some other person of authority. However, it may just be that little annoying obligation placed on us by a family member or a friend. ‘…wants me to …”, ‘…expects me to…’ Eventually we get it done and move on. Obligations are often resisted and resented. That is the role someone else will impose upon us. That is the first mile. Only after we complete the obligation are we free to accomplish our own will. Now we can put it behind us and try to forget it. But we could add an unexpected touch that we know the recipient would appreciate. We could go the second mile. After the first mile, we are free to accomplish our own will, and that is what defines us. It is primarily after the completion of what is required that one’s character is demonstrated. Remember when you reach the mile marker, the second mile is easier because it is by choice and not obligation.
