If someone is being dishonest and manipulative with his or her current romantic partner — while making plans to switch to a relationship with you — what makes you think the person won’t later do it to you? It’s easy to overlook that when you desperately want someone to choose you, but someone who’s willing to be dishonest with one partner is almost certainly going to do the same to you when it later suits his or her purpose.
