If the GOP supports legalizing illegal immigrants they may as well cede the future of their party. We hear members of the GOP ranting that the President is not supporting the laws of the land, while if they support legalizing illegals, they are in fact, also violating the law. We have laws on the books that clearly define the process for legal immigration. While I will admit the process needs to be amended, by removing much of the red tape from the process. It is still the law of the land and our elected officials must, by virtue of their office, uphold the law. The GOP is disillusioned if they think legalization will help them win elections. It is not their job to focus on winning elections, their job is to govern and represent the people that put them in office. If they do their job well, the voters will re-elect them, if they do not, then they do not deserve to be re-elected. If our government feels it must do something for illegal immigrants, then put a motion/plan/process on the ballot and let we the people decide whether or not to grant legalization to people who violated and circumvented our immigration laws. Instead of letting 100 senators, and 435 members of the House of Representatives decide what to do with illegal immigrants, let the millions of voters, who will be affected by any immigration decision, make that decision.
