If the church wants to reach disillusioned and disenfranchised youth, one of the things it should do is equip young believers to tackle problems. It needs to speak their language, understand their struggles and help them overcome them. Secondly, the church needs to be heard speaking about the issues that concern young men like racism, poverty, inequality, unemployment. And thirdly, it has to share the gospel in a way that reflects their reality, offers the remedy and meets their desire for knowledge and understanding. The church can and has provided a home for many disenfranchised black youth. But it must wake up to the fact that it really needs to do more.
