If the very first thing you do after adding me on FB/Twitter is to send me links and a boilerplate Share my Kickstarter/fundraiser, were probably not going to get along. Understand that Facebook is a weird balance of complete strangers and friends/family/co-workers. I know you want to interact with all kinds of people but, just like in real life, theyre interacting with people they already know at the same time. Imagine being at a big social party and you barge into the conversation as a complete stranger with HEY! Give me FIVE BUCKS! or YO! Look at ME! I know its important to you and I appreciate that youre creating something, but its not a good first impression. Show me youre a person first before you unload an ad campaign on me or, better yet, just post stuff on your wall and, if its quality, then people will share it and it will grow. Im a self promoter. I understand the urge. I know my drum beating probably annoys my friends/colleagues here at times but I do try to balance it. I know Ive opened myself up to this stuff by writing How-To posts. I totally get that. Im thrilled when people bring me their finished comics at a convention or let me know the information I put together was helpful, but if I shared all the Kickstarter requests I receive youd stop following me. My feed would be a solid wall of Kickstarter/fundraising links, day after day. I wish you all the best with your creative pursuits. I hope you have tons of success. Im thrilled youre making stuff... but I have to limit myself to occasionally sharing projects Im already backing or ones by my real life personal friends. Thanks for understanding, Jim
