If this is not ok to post here let me know and I will remove it Please share and also go down to the Lincoln co fair July 30-aug 3rd and vote for Joyce and Al Handlin...my parents are now finalists for the Ryan Ott construction roof give away. Here is the letter we wrote to enter them: There once was an elderly couple in Merrill who didn’t have the money of Will Farrell Their carpet could get squishy Because their roof’s condition was fishy Which put their fragile health in peril They have heard pitter patters of hundreds of feet But now it’s the drip drip drip of rain and sleet They give and give, never take And all they really need is one little break So what do you say? Can they compete? For their lifetime of good deeds they deserve better Than a crappy old roof that just leaves them wetter They wouldn’t enter this contest Because they feel they’re already blessed So that’s why we’re writing you this letter Our parents, Allen and Joyce Handlin, have been looking out for the safety and well-being of others for as long as they’ve lived. Their many charitable accomplishments include fire warden, town constable, Little League baseball and softball coach (whose stress was always on fun and mechanics rather than winning), sheriff’s department Special Deputy Unit, Boy Scout leadership, church councilman, treasurer and finance director of the State Foster Parent Organization, Habitat for Humanity volunteers, Hurricane Katrina responder, and humanitarian efforts with the Good News Project in Saint Lucia of the West Indies. Together they have helped raise 197 foster children, 4 biological children, and 2 adopted children. Their home has housed a day care center that has provided care to well over 100 children over the years. Joyce has been known to bake birthday treats for her children’s and grandchildren’s entire schools. She purchases school supplies, boots, snow pants, and coats for children whose single parents cannot afford the items on their own. In short, the needs of others have always come before their own needs. Their apparent selflessness is truly inspiring; however, they take great joy and pride in their accomplishments even though they are rarely rewarded physically . We simply cannot think of two people who deserve the prize more. Please leave your vote with us
