If we take the population of the US current (313.9 million) and assume for argument sake that each household has 4 people in it (78.475 million homes) this totals out to roughly 29% of the entire population being on food stamps. Lets place this into perspective. During the great depression era, the average unemployment rate was 25% - 28%. The current amount of households in the US is over that amount.
