If we were to be immortal and live forever, would we be the same - TopicsExpress

If we were to be immortal and live forever, would we be the same person? I would argue no. Think about it. Are you the same person now compared to 10 years ago? 20 years ago? 30 years ago? I believe the things that define who we are as people are solely our experiences in life, our memories, the wisdom acquired from those two things, and who we want to be in the future. Take one of those things away and we are not ourselves. Sure our bodies may look the same and were still in the same capsule, but we practically shed almost all of our cells and replace them with new ones. Just a copy of a shell. The only thing that links those are the elements described above. Lets say we lived to be 1,000 years old. We most likely couldnt remember all the things we remembered when we were 20 years old and as vividly. We would most likely have a collection of important events from 2 - 20 and a far less condensed pack of memories from 100 to 1,000. We would remember only the significant experiences and wisdom. Part of ourselves would be lost and in place of that, hopefully, a better version of us through time. You could even compare this concept to that of our bodies shedding its shell for another copy. Moral of the story is; dont become too attached to who and what you are at the present moment. If you do, you will become stagnant and lifeless. Time is structured in the same fashion that all matter is. There is a concept or intent, a singularity, and then a perpetual dualism that generates an inverted vortex that is fractal. If you understand the idea, growth will be faster, easier and a little bit less scary. Memories give us the false concept that time is linear. Yet, without them we would have no path to become mentally cyclical. Life would stand still even though each experience would be as astonishing as opening your eyes for the first time in life when youre born. So to live and grow, we must, in essence, die.
