If you dont agree, keep it to yourself! In recent weeks, we’ve heard from Christian readers who have told us about their employers – both public and private – issuing directives not to say “Merry Christmas” or display any sign of it in their workplace. Though it’s been noted, and must be again, that Christmas is a federal holiday, celebrated by the federal government. We’ve heard from Jewish readers who have told us they’ve been called “Christ killers” and made to feel excluded by every corner of the predominantly Christian society this time of year. How tragic. What we wish for all is for a return to civility, at least during this holiday season. Whether you are Christian or not, accept a “Merry Christmas” greeting as it’s intended, as a gesture of goodwill and a celebration of family, hope and compassion. Whether you’re Jewish or not, accept a “Happy Hanukkah” as a gesture of goodwill and a celebration of family, hope and compassion. And for those of other faiths and for those who have no belief system, accept the goodwill of your neighbors with the grace in which it is given.
