If you ever played football in college, or pros. Especially as a QB like myself, we have all tampered with the balls. When I played it was unheard of to wear gloves, so we would get a new ball and rub it in the grass, stand on it, and rub it against a grizzly bear if we could to break that sucker in before the first pass. We as quarterbacks never talked about our tricks, it was just implied. My first live TV interview I had to do some throwing, and get iterviewed. The interviewer was Ted Dawson of Los Angeles Channel 7 news. Ted breaks out this new ball. Forget about me being nervous about being on LAs major sports channel. I could feel myself sweating, because of that new ball. We tossed the ball around, and then for the camera I had to throw a 70 yard throw out to my receiver doing a streak, as we called it (Long Bomb) Thankfully that ball was a bit broken in by then. I also remember very vividly getting off the plane in Alabama, and being met by my Offensive coordinator Mal Moore of the Crimson Tide. We went straight to the field, and he wanted me to throw to his son, who was trying to make the team. I remember him pulling out a fresh football, and I asked him Do we always use new balls in college? His answer YES! I was already trying to figure out how to break that sucker in before my first throw to his son! LOL Now go to a good sporting goods store, and go grab a real pro ball, or college ball. They are inflated to the point of popping. And they have a powdery feel to them, and are as slippery as Bill Clinton. Doctoring balls have been going around for ages in the NFL, college, and even high school. The NFL, and teams have it out for the Patriots obviously. Case in point. back in the 70s teams started using stick-um on their hands. This stuff was so sticking you could catch Rosie ODonnell at an oil wrestling event! It helped the receivers, and the QBs. They eventually got rid of the stuff, and now everyone from Kurt Warner back 10 years ago, to Peyton Manning now wears them. Eventually they should be outlawed as well, because they give the same advantage as stick-um. Look I have large hands, and a vise like grip. And when I throw a ball even today, I indent the ball with my finger pressure. but having said that, throwing a new ball, and especially Super Bowl balls (because they bring a new ball into play almost every down, so they can give the used SB balls to VIPs and sponsors.) Is a real pain! remember Tony Romo losing the grip of the extra point? he has never lived that down. (New ball, and slippery and another reason they allow scuffed balls now in the NFL) Ever notice what a kicker does to the ball before the kickoffs? He massages that thing like its Kate Upton, and almost turns it inside out before he boots it down the field! I would also like to pint out that under-inflating balls can be very counterproductive. If a ball is to under-inflated the ball sticks in the QBs hand to long, and does not release properly. As for the receiver, it also doesnt stick to them (body) it bounces off them. And yes even their hands it will bounce off of! Well that is my story, and I Stick to it! Pun intended! Oh and by the way. A Super Bowl ball gets all kinds of nice decoration (Gold embossing) on the ball, which also makes them more slippery than normal. By the way Anyone ever hear of major league pitchers doctoring baseballs? Coaches, catchers, and bat boys are in on it, on a daily basis! A lot of cows gave their hides, so watch and learn something! tbyoutu.be/HZnkhjwQp0A
