If you feel so inclined, dont hesitate to give your heart to others that appear before you in life, but know that friendship, if it is real friendship, will flow both ways. You will want to spend time with your friends and they will want to spend time with you. Dont be the only one who requests those times. Let them request them too. Allow your friendship to ebb and to flow, to give and to take. Allow mutuality. Friendship is a kind of dance that needs two dancers to participate. You can only dance with someone who is dancing with you. You can only pursue a relationship with someone who is pursuing one with you as well. It is always mutual. You cannot force friendship or make it happen, it is a gift freely given and received or not. It is reciprocated equally. Let go of your friend completely and if they return to you they are your friend, just as you initially suspected. If they dont, they were an acquaintance, which is also fine and a wonderful gift as well. Everyone who enters our life, even if briefly, was meant to be there, while they were there, for some reason or other. It is all part of the great mystery of love. No love you ever give another is ever given in vain. Everyone who enters your orbit of love and concern will, in a certain sense, remain in that orbit for a lifetime...and perhaps even beyond a lifetime. Everyone you have ever met, even just for a moment, remains in your heart forever. You may have met them before in some distant time and place or you may meet them again in another distant time and place. Life is an immense and mysterious and awesome and infinite matrix of connection and oneness.
