If you get a bill from the IRS, it is imperative that you have someone review it who understands how to decipher it. After reviewing an IRS letter today and also reviewing the clients IRS account transcript, its obvious that the bill from the IRS is incorrect. In this particular case, mortgage interest was not properly reported to the IRS by the mortgage company; therefore, the IRS is disallowing the mortgage interest and real estate taxes. And, the taxpayer received a tax bill. The tax return as filed is correct. The IRS is wrong but only because they werent provided all the information they need. Never pay a bill from the IRS until you know it is correct. They often arent correct..
