If you had to vote for one of the people below to be co-opted onto the Town Council, who would you vote for…? Ref Benjamin Gregory, Co-Option Chippenham town Council: I believe I would be an asset to the Town and it’s electorate given my proven track record with Chippenham Town events and support for the local community. I narrowly missed out on a council position by just 8 votes to Mr David Powell who has also been elected Council leader following the recent election. My record of achievement includes: Events Manager for the Cherish Chippenham Town Team on a voluntary basis: Organisation of the Cherish Chippenham Family fun day. Production of the Portas Pilot application video and marketing materials. Organisation of the first Cherish Chippenham Business Awards. Co-Chairman of Cherish Chippenham Town Team: Assisted in securing funding for the BID application. I will be continuing to manage the BID process to secure a YES vote next year. I was a major sponsor for the Business Awards. Organisation of sub-groups within the Town Team. Liaised with Town Council staff for a variety of projects. Santa’s Grotto Emery Gate, December 2012, voluntary basis: I set up and run the Santa’s Grotto and Children’s craft workshop on a voluntary basis I personally funded the project with my own money to the cost of £1550. Employed 2 young girls over the Christmas period and trained them new business skills. Local Business owner in Chippenham for 15 years: I have owned Digiprint Chippenham for 11 years in the Town and another business previously. I employ local people and also run a young apprentice scheme giving opportunities to school leavers. I have wide business connections with many local shops and providers in Town. Digiprint is a Council approved supplier and we assist with Talk of the Town newsletters and many other projects. I sponsor many local events such as the folk festival, Namfest, business awards and small events all over town. Chippenham Independent Traders Association: I set up CITA nearly 2 years ago with Sandie Webb and we have worked to engage the disenfranchised small business community. I organised the Chippenham Independents week, taking over an empty unit in Emery Gate and showcasing local business. I designed and printed newsletters and visited the local business owners to create a contact. CITA initiated the BID process for giving Chippenham Town centre a revitalised shopping experience. I had campaigned independently as a Chippenham Champion as I believed that local issues were more important to the people of the Town rather than National politics. As far as I am aware I had the second highest vote count for an independent candidate and beat several Conservative and Liberal candidates in what was a very competitive ward this year. I have a good working relationship with Sue Wilthew, all back office staff at the Town Council including Emma King, Victoria Lowkis and Mary Laing. A very good relationship with Emery Gate and Borough Parade both as customers of my business and with projects and support for Chippenham Town events. Close working relationship with Melody Thompson, Cherish Chippenham Chairman and fellow Chippenham Champion. Chippenham Town Council needs an injection of Impartial enthusiasm, Ideas, energy and a different approach to events, Town marketing projects and interaction with local businesses and towns people. I believe I am the person to do this and will give the position my full and serious attention. Kind Regards Benjamin Gregory OR.... Dear Mrs Susan Wilthew, My family and I have recently moved to Chippenham. We have noticed that while Chippenham is a friendly town with good schools and transport links it does appear to lack a vibrant attractive town centre. Our town is growing year on year and we should be able to improve our town centre by providing constructive partnerships with local housing developments, which if they want to build in or around Chippenham, should contribute to the creation of a vibrant new town centre. I have always believed of the importance of resilient local representation as this in turn produces not only a safer and stronger community, but also increases prosperity by promoting our town as a place to live as well as a place of business. Strong representation can also help to reduce crime through life long promotion of education, health and continued protection of the environment. After reviewing the co-option notice on the Chippenham town council website I would like to put my name forward for election as town councillor by the town council on the 26th June 2012. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your time and please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information. Yours sincerely Bret S. Palmer
