If you have never been to the Grand Marais Summer Solstice Pageant, you are missing out. When you have an extra half hour to watch this, I recommend it! We took friends to their first one and the only description I could tell them before is that it is magical. We got there an hour early to set up our chairs. Since it was Jims and my 11th anniversary I wanted to go because it was always a highlight of our summer. I had two small containers of Jims ashes in my pocket. The 4 of us walked to the beach and in to the dock where the Hjordis is tied. A day before our wedding we went on a Hjordis ride with Jims sisters Kathryn and Gloria Jean along with friends who traveled far to be there, Nancy and Thomas Wayne. At the dock I said some things and poured his ashes in the lake. Then our friend Peter said some things and did the same. We watched this amazing cloud of ashes that didnt sink but just stayed there. Then out if that cloud was a stream of little bubbles that came out if the cloud and floated away. We were all moved by that and knew he was there with us. When I sat down waiting for the show to start I reached for some gum that I grabbed out of my purse. It was the pack of Jims gum that I didnt even know I had. I chewed it thru the Pageant and it kept Jim right in tie forefront of my mind. Toward the end of the pageant the song What a Wonderful World was played during one of the scenes and it was really moving for me. I live in a beautiful, creative, amazing town where so many people talked to me about Jim when it was over. Watch the video and you will see why I cant explain what its like. Maybe you will watch it like Peter did, with his mouth wide open, and eyes transfixed on everything going on. He said that it was weird and wonderful. I was sitting next to another friend and we said to each other that we have lived here so long it wasnt weird to us. And for that, I am truly grateful.
