If you have previously shot with a bow at any venue, good for you - TopicsExpress

If you have previously shot with a bow at any venue, good for you and if you have not try it, I urge you to do so. Archery may not be relevant in this modern age of gunpowder, high power optics, long range accurate rifles and shotguns but it is still one of the great ancient arts left to us by our ancestors. The differences between a gun and a bow are many but the main difference is this;- the gun use mechanisms to fire a projectile at a target while the bow uses the HUMAN muscle to achieve the same goal. in a sense the bow has a heart, figuratively speaking. Almost anyone can shoot a gun but not everyone can shoot an arrow with a bow proficiently. Indeed, the arrow in flight has more dynamics acting with and against it when compared to the bullet. Another difference between a gun and a bow;- the bullet once fired is often unrecoverable and unusable while the arrow is often and most likely recoverable and reusable. Another plus is the bow is quite while the gun, without any suppression is loud. Back to the case of being relevant; It is, to me unfair to label archery as irrelevant in the modern age. If archery is irrelevant, then what makes chess, karate, Kendo and calligraphy relevant? Archery is an ART form, just as chess and calligraphy. The difference is that while chess and calligraphy are "civil" arts the ART of archery is "Martial" just like Karate, WuShu and Kendo.
