If you havent ever seen a Hayao Miyazaki film, Ponyo is a good - TopicsExpress

If you havent ever seen a Hayao Miyazaki film, Ponyo is a good place to start. Its one of the more accessible of his films to the uninitiated and was his biggest financial success here in the States. It is also one of his finest for small children (along with My Neighbor Totoro), featuring two small kids as the central characters, though many of his films have children as the main protagonist or central characters. From there try Spirited Away (the first to be distributed here in the States by Disney under the Buena Vista label) and then perhaps Princess Mononoke, which was the first to have a theatrical release in the U.S. (by Miramax). My favorite is Howls Moving Castle, with Billy Crystal turning in a brilliant performance as the irascible, but tender-hearted fire demon that powers Howls castle. In my opinion, Miyazaki is second only to Walt Disney in the field of animation. His films feature rich and absolutely gorgeous, hand-drawn animation with powerful themes and many strange and unusual characters that differ significantly from most mainstream animation were used to here in the U.S. His movies are very popular overseas, often making ten times the box office they do here in the States. Miyazaki, a rather eccentric person who rarely grants interviews, has just recently retired and will be greatly missed by his many fans. His amazing imagination and almost fanatical devotion to quality and craftsmanship has resulted in some of the most incredible animated films ever made. If youve never seen one, you owe it to yourself to experience the beautiful and exciting world of Hayao Miyazaki. https://youtube/watch?v=bskgNOXbdiE
