If you havent yet seen the pictures I posted today, check them out. I found a poor starved pitbull on the corner of Wanegarden and Wynnfield at about 11:30am. She was covered in filth - caked with urine and feces - emaciated, bones sticking out everywhere - it hurt just to look at her. I was able, with the help of Kathleen Summers who came upon her soon after I did, to get her to our vet, Diamond Veterinary Hospital. A shout out to Allysia Cirka who fielded my first hysterical call asking what I should do. Dr. Bonner was amazing - came running out the door as soon as I pulled up in my van, took the dog in and checked her out. We found funding for her treatment (my dear parents - thank them if you see them - they are saints). She is going into surgery at 4:30pm. The x-rays show she has some very dense material stuck in her stomach. We are hoping it is straightforward and that it has not travelled into her gut. She was obviously in a lot of pain - it was heartbreaking - the stench, the look in her eyes, the labored breathing. I dont know if she will survive surgery - the vet has prepared us for the worst. Kathleens friend is going to foster her if she makes it. So I really want to believe that this dog has some sort of destiny to fulfill and that is why we found her. She will need a forever home. I wish we could take her but we cant. I sat on the floor of the vets office with her for an hour - she had her head in my lap and she kept looking up at me and I just fell in love with her. I dont understand how people do such terrible things to animals. Its almost too much to bear. I used to be afraid of pitbulls - until I educated myself about the real issues. If there were ever any doubt, this experience has convinced me that there are no bad breeds - just bad owners. I will give an update on Ginger as I have information. Say a little prayer that she makes it through surgery.
