If you know me, you know I dont post political things on Facebook, - TopicsExpress

If you know me, you know I dont post political things on Facebook, but I am making an exception this one time, because my conscience wont let me rest if I dont at least try to do something here. On December 9, the US Senate released a 525 page section of a report done on the CIAs torture program, and its contents are horrifying. The CIA has, since 2002, tortured at least 119 people, and when I say torture I dont refer to waterboarding or sleep deprivation, two methods which are debated as being actual torture or not. I am talking about beatings, being chained to overhead pipes, kept in near-total darkness for months at a time, and anally raping prisoners. You read that correctly: CIA employees, acting in my name and yours, raped dozens of detainees in a program the likes of which would not be out of place in Nazi Germany or Stalins Russia. At least two died in custody, and not one single piece of important information was gained. Not one attack was thwarted, not a single person was protected, not a single soldier saved. This program accomplished nothing but staining our collective souls. Of the 119 people we tortured, at LEAST 26 were found to be unconnected to any terrorist organization. 26. We tortured 26 innocent people: raped them, beat them, deprived them of sleep and kept them in cold dark cells for months or years. That was done by Americans, under orders from the United States, paid for by you and me. We did that. 26 innocent people. For nothing. Then, not only was this allowed to take place, the CIA lied to the Senate Oversight Committee on Intelligence about it. The Senate Committee whose sole responsibility is to monitor the CIA and other intelligence agencies, and the CIA lied, destroyed evidence, and concealed how brutal they were being. These people are criminals. If they did these things in the United States, they would die in prison. If they did it to a dog, theyd spend a decade in jail. If they do it in Afghanistan, and we dont act, theyll be promoted. I love my country, but I cant believe in a country that practices torture. I cant, and so Im asking all of you to help me try to influence Congress to levy charges against these people. When we torture, we stand among the torturers, whose ranks include the likes of China, Russia, and North Korea. America is better than this. We arent supposed to torture. We make mistakes, but I believe we make them ultimately for the right reasons. There are no right reasons to torture. This is the one and only time I will ever ask anyone to share anything. The link below is for Contacting the Congress-a website that allows you to quickly and easily find and contact your Representative and Senators. Im asking everyone to use this site, email or call(calls are considered 10x as effective as emails) your congressman/woman, demand to know what they are going to do to bring these criminals to justice. Please, as Americans and human beings, help me try to exert even a small influence. Fill it out and share it to your friends, your family, anyone you know. It takes five minutes. You might be thinking that it wont make a difference, and you might be right. It might not accomplish anything, but it definitely wont accomplish anything if we do nothing. What else were you going to spend the next five minutes on? America is better than this, and we as Americans have a responsibility to try.
