If you like movies where the hero suffers adversity but ultimately triumphs, this one is not for you. Llewyn Davis, a talented folk singer trying to survive without compromising his art in the early 60s Greenwich Village scene, suffers one indignity after another, many of his own making, only, in the last scene, to have Bob Dylan take the stage. You see can the young Dylan in the distance, unruly hair bathed in the spotlight, and you can certainly hear him, but Davis has other problems and does not notice. We, though, know that the folk world is about to be turned around, and it wont be Davis who will make it turn. He will be an irrelevance. This Coen Brothers movie gets high grades for period accuracy, a very dark and warped sense of humor, and great music, but it is not easy to watch...especially when he takes a cat on the subway. That really bothered me for some reason even though he was nice to the cat.
