If you live on this coast .. be prepared for some severe weather this evening... Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and damaging surf for people in the Metropolitan, Mid North Coast, Hunter and Illawarra forecast districts Weather Situation A low pressure system over the western Tasman Sea is forecast to deepen significantly tonight and early Wednesday. A large pressure difference between this system and a high to the west will generate vigorous winds along the coastal fringe tonight and Wednesday. Damaging winds averaging 65 km/h with peak gusts to 100 km/h are possible along the coastal fringe of the Illawarra late this evening, extending to the Sydney Metropolitan coast around midnight, then the Hunter coast and and southern parts of the Mid North Coast in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Very heavy surf, which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion, is forecast for the Hunter and southern parts of the Mid North Coast during Wednesday. Beach conditions in these areas and for most of the remainder of the coast will be dangerous and people are advised to stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
