If you live or work in Palo Alto you should read this and go to this meeting or send in a written request!! The city is currently considering revisions to their comprehensive plan, which would necessarily include a vision for how much development should occur in the area. The current four plans that have been proposed are all effectively anti-growth (one of them comes sort of close to being pro-growth, but not really). As I think most of us know, anti-growth/anti-development strategies are responsible for increasing rents and (amusing enough) the same sort of traffic/commuter issues that all the current residents are complaining about. Some of my co-workers and I attended the city council meeting yesterday and made a lot of public comments, and we were told by lots of people that it was great to have the other side of the issue voice their opinions and also that it drastically changed the tone of the conversation (turns out its hard to have ~50% of the people looking upstanding and saying I want to live here but youre pricing me out and turn to them and say you suck go away). Anyway, there is another meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) night and more people should go and voice their opinions!!! Itd be extremely nice if this were more than just my co-workers, but people who worked for other companies in the city, for example.
