If you read this, well I dont think you will be disappointed by the end. Im just sitting here thinking of how blessed I am to have been accepted into my internship. I am nearly done with my first week and I was thrown into the deep end of things and quickly started taking on water. But, I am sitting here alive and well, finally breathing. I am exhausted, but meeting my fatigue is a conflicting excitement. An excitement of things to come. A few days ago there was a metro incident which took the life of an elderly lady and put the lives of roughly 84 others in danger. Many tried to save the lady to no avail. It was a sad story. And I myself, only one metro connection away could have been in that tragedy. (I have gotten on the wrong metro twice this week.) Nonetheless, in the wake of the tragedy I have also seen amazing things. Just yesterday I saw an elderly lady, probably around 80 getting off work. She was working the metro system at her old age with her walker and roller backpack in twenty degree weather. But, what was even more surprising was the man who made her trip a little less short. The man carried her things to her bus and then proceeded to help her on. If there is one thing you see in D.C. it is the general lack of human interaction, but some how I witnessed one of those rare occasions. Anyway, on my pursuit to be a journalist I felt obligated to share a couple stories. I have been told that in my field I need to be a hard-ass, but I figure occasionally it would be good to show that I am human. With much appreciation for my current status, I dont want to take anything for granted. Even more so, I want to fall in love with my work and Im sure I will.
