If you really like your job and feel confident that youre good at - TopicsExpress

If you really like your job and feel confident that youre good at it....you dont mind if some person just decides to only call you by that job title. Like salesman or barber or mechanic. If you feel like you are good at a gig you dont mind if someone says Hey my favorite barber is here! or The baddest mechanic around is in the place! Thats why I dont mind when folks simply call me DJ. I get called that name on nights Im not spinning at places I dont spin. Most of the time I have seen this person at a gig I was working at or a club or dance hall. This DJ Life takes me all over because I realized one day it doesnt behoove me to be pigeon-holed into one specific genre of music. If you limit yourself.....you will never see your chance to exhibit your full potential. Adaptation is a very good survival skill. Not sure if everyone gets thee concept though. A DJ is the guy that has his position based on reputation in most cases. Most times when you go to a club or wedding reception you are entertained by one lone person. Doesnt matter how many people the room holds or how many people are in attendance. Typically, one person has to make sure that after 4 hours you dont completely hate them and the folks around you after being in one room for so long with loud music playing. Can just anybody do that?? Can just anyone get in FRONT of complete strangers for multiple hours and keep them entertained?? Its just a question. New technology comes out that makes it easier for more folks to turn a hobby or dream into reality these days. Some purists of the art form will argue that only real DJs use vinyl and carry massive amounts of crates every to gig they get hired to perform. I hope they charge a whole lot for that. I mean over $1K per gig. But talking down about a person that utilizes thee technology of the time while you still spin on discontinued relics is totally unnecessary. If you are good at what you do and can move a crowd it shouldnt matter if you spin with vinyl, CD player, Ipad, or DJ Controller. If youre good....youre good. You can usually tell by the number of folks dancing or by the repeat appearances by thee same DJ. Unless this is some political debate or something its never a good look to talk bad about someone in your own industry. You r own line of work. Makes you look bad because if you think you are so good ....why are you worried about what DJ So-n-So is doing? Let the people, fans, audience members do the talking instead. If a DJ is terrible the crowd will let them know. The owner of thee establishment will let them know. Thee lack of gigs hired for or rehired for will let them know. Why even bother letting something negative come out of your own mouth?? Why?? Adapt to your century, adapt to your surroundings, tolerate everybody, except new technology. Let the poor schmuck you dont even know and yet see fit to clown upon, demean, disrespect.....whatever you choose to call it, live out their dream as DJ Whoever......
