If you want to hear something interesting, read this.... - Last night in my apartment, someone knocked on my door. I answered the door, and of course another person trying to sell me something; only this time, i figured Id let them in and tell me about their product. He spent about two hours showing me the Kirby vacuum (which really is a good product.) I finally told him I wasnt interested, but we were his last stop, so I figured Id find out a little about him and make him feel welcome for a job well done, but the dissatisfying result of not making another sale. I went on to ask him a series of questions, curious because I knew there was more to this guy than what met the eye, and I was right. This man served in the United States Army for about 8 years, lost half of his thumb and took shrapnal to the back of his head. I kept digging, and went on to find one of the most touching and inspirational men out there. The Army kicked him out because he could no longer perform his job due to his thumb, and PTSD from the shrapnal to the back of his head, This was around the time the Army started saying that they were no longer going to pay for medical, schooling and they werent getting any more raises at 1 year intervals like promised. With the Army abandoning him and his 8 years of service, he was told there were a lot of jobs looking for ex military people, but no matter how many interviews, got nothing. He got evicted from his home, and his marriage was falling quickly. His wife left him and told his kids that he abandoned them. He wound up on the streets with no job, no medical, no schooling, and a marriage that drowned. Thats when he said that a nice guy working for kirby, came and picked him up off the streets and gave him a place to live and a job. Thats how this man ended up at my front door. The one group of people that the United States should care the most for, was an 8 year United States Army Vet only about 30 years old, and already everything came crumbling down. We ordered pizza and offered him to partake and we left on a good note. There were a lot of questions asked, a lot of advice given from him to us, but all in all, this man wakes up every day, and does his job door to door selling vacuums. This is not where our veterans should end up. I shook his hand, and said thank you for your service, both here in my home tonight, and for what youve done in the past. He smiled, and went to his hotel for the night. His name was Johnny. -Kyle Goodrich.
