If you want to increase muscle stimulation, hypertrophy, and overall development you will want to train a muscle through its full range of motion. A muscle has what is called a strength curve. Its shaped similar to a bell curve, showing at which parts of the movement a muscle is strongest in. Normally the muscle is strongest in the middle of the range and weaker at the extremes, such as when the muscle is fully lengthened and when it is in its shortest position. The barbell curl is a very common bicep exercise but it only works the muscle in the middle of the range, which is where it is the strongest. It is important to train your muscles at the extremes in order to stimulate more muscle fibers and increase in muscle size and strength.
