If you want to know what this country means to those, legal or not, who are not citizens of this country but live in it, spend some time watching a USA flag retirement ceremony with them at a Boy Scout Woodbadge training, as I was able to do in September. Citizen or not, theyre still one of us, and they respect the freedoms we hold dear, perhaps more than most of us citizens even realize! I gained a huge respect for my latino brothers and sisters, many whom were not citizens, watching them this past fall try to just learn how to serve the youth in their neighborhoods through The Boy Scouts of America. They wouldnt have gotten that anywhere else in the world, and you could see that appreciation in their eyes.
