If you want to understand Neptune, the story of Noah is your best reference point. On a more contemporary note, though, you could also explore the themes addressed by Woody Allen in many of his films, especially Blue Jasmine, Midnight in Paris and, now, Magic in the Moonlight. The latter is fun and worth watching but not as good, I believe, as the former two. Back to Neptune. Allen talks about the little and big ways in which delude ourselves and others when, occasionally, we need to escape the harshness and brutality of life. Neptune just wants to get out of here and, if you can find a creative way to do so rather than a destructive one, all the better for you.
