If you want to understand what will cripple this, our SAn economy, - TopicsExpress

If you want to understand what will cripple this, our SAn economy, take a walk or drive to the nearest ATM on the last day of the month... I have been keenly visiting these mini banking institutions over months, on days when the SASSA Dept does its roll out of social grants, just out of my own interest and informal research. Today, as I made my visits, I encountered something rather shocking... Loads and loads of families, standing in lines, waiting to use ATMs... on average, 2xGrandparents, 2xParents, 2xDaughters, 8x Grandchildren...going to withdraw their free monthly ration...which translates to, as I stood there strategically viewing the ATM screen.... 2x 1350, 3x 830, 8x 310...amounting to an average of R5830, if my arithmetic has not failed me, plus child maintenance (papgeld)for all the children...which has been standardized to a minimum of R500 per 0yrs old children by our courts, and usually resulting to more as per income of the father. Lets keep it at 500 per child, for argument sake... Now add 4000 (8x500) to the SASSA payment and you will get roughly 9830...per household, of money nobody has worked for. They come in contracted taxis, brandishing a minimum of 4/5 sassa cards per person... Youre lucky if you can get to use the ATM on these days. They seem to know each other too... Some come in their own cars, because clearly they can afford these cars and smart phones they all seem to have... Now will someone please tell me, if your average South African will ever see the need to wake up in the morning to look for a job? Would you, if you were them? Remember the majority of these beneficiaries come from RDP homes and our old townships, do not pay rates, get free education with a free nutrition programme, get free health care, get govt sponsored water and electricity, get food parcels at certain intervals... The mind boggling question remains in my mind, as the loan sharks also grab the opportunity and collect on these days...brandishing.their banking bags carrying hundreds of sassa cards and some indecent bling for the show. Is this the freedom we fought long.and hard for? To create a nation, across colour codes, of people who live and dedicatedly are dependant on social grants? Today, what shocked me even more were a few police officials also making use of these SASSA handouts, and some Nursing Assistants, there could have been a few other civil servants in civilian clothing too...Is this our legacy as South Africa, the Democratic Republic? A nation that feeds off its few dedicatedly employed individuals? Is this the legacy we intend to leave for our children and their children? Is our govermnent satisfied with this status quo? Are we for real? I surely know that my family members, who fought for this freedom, did not sacrifice their livelihood for this turn of events. VUKA SOUTH AFRICA!!!!
