If you watched TV last night, you must have seen the horrific story about the woman in Nyeri losing her baby. On this issue, I want to say very clearly that doctors, nurses and politicians, among others, are employed by the public. When a society gets to the point where it fails to recognize who the employer is, and when the employee begins to lord it on the employer as if they are the servant, that society is on its way to anarchy. The situation in Nyeri General Hospital where nurses employed by a woman’s taxes ignore her pleas to the extent that she gives birth standing up and consequently loses the baby, calls for only one thing: A COMPLETE OVERHAUL not only of the Nyeri General Hospital but the health services as a whole. As the area Senator, I will be discussing with the Governor the way that we must very quickly take over the management of this hospital because indeed this is a devolved function. When nurses and doctors go on strike and claim that they do not want to work with the County Government, it is because it has been possible to get away with this kind of behavior in the past. In Nyeri County, we will not allow this to continue. We appreciate the many hard working nurses and doctors who work every day and save lives every minute. It is in the interests of these professionals – individuals with such good reputations - that we eliminate the bad apples who have the capability of spoiling the image of the whole bunch…and costing us lives in the process.
