If you were tuned in to Rahul’s speech hoping for his views on Centre-State relations (as asked by Ajay Sriram) or his views of water management (as asked by Dhruv Sawhney) you were in for a terrible surprise. What followed these questions were half-baked lectures on Panchayati Raj, nightclubs in Spain, plans for marriage, India-China comparisons, Aishwarya Rai’s wedding and so on and so forth. One can’t think of a single individual, either sitting at the venue or seeing it from somewhere outside, who got a straight answer to the questions that were asked. Add to that the fact that after finishing answering the second question, Rahul promptly ended the programme and promised to return ‘soon.’ Now, cut to March 16 when Narendra Modi was speaking at the India Today Conclave. His speech for an hour was followed by another hour of grueling questions. And the questions were not baby punches but covered every criticism on Modi and the Gujarat model- is the development for real? Why does Gujarat have malnutrition? When will you shift to Delhi? Even the ‘will you apologise’ bogey was raised in a rather bitter manner by an esteemed journalist in the audience. Not once did Modi digress from the issues. He patiently heard the question and answered on the basis of facts and experience. It is not rocket science to figure what is more desirable- do we want leaders who answer or those who run away. niticentral/?p=61937
