If your students are all reading something and loving it and talking about it, the parents and teachers need to read it, too. How can you discuss it with them, and understand when they are telling you about it, if you havent read it? A lot of childrens and YA literature is better than what youre reading, anyway. I first read Harry Potter to see what all the hype was about, and because my students wanted to talk about it. Now Im in love with it. I even read all those Twilight books because a certain segment of my female students loved them. I am NOT, however, in love with that series. I think its ghastly - so poorly written and about such dreadful shallow people. But if it gets someone reading, Im all for it. I know these things only because I read the books. All of them.
