If youre a Washington Mystics fan, you probably have had more than a fair share of wondering what could have been. Many of the WNBAs top stars could have realistically played for your team. Here is the list: 2002: Sue Bird or Swin Cash 2004: Diana Taurasi 2009: Angel McCoughtry 2013: Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne, or Skylar Diggins Thats a really, REALLY great list of players there. Anyway, Taurasi spoke at the Phoenix Mercurys championship rally on Sunday. During her speech, she said, The day I got drafted to Phoenix was the best day of my life......I couldve been a Mystic. So here are two things to discuss: 1. If the Mystics received the #1 pick in 2004 to draft Taurasi instead of Alana Beard, could D.C. have contended for at least the Eastern Conference championship? And would her presence have demanded that their organization take itself seriously? Yes, we know that the folks at Monumental Sports & Entertainment are taking womens professional basketball seriously TODAY. But before Mike Thibault was hired, they were running a Mickey Mouse franchise. This also includes Ted Leonsis predecessor, the late Abe Pollin. Thats the truth unfortunately. 2. With Taurasi saying what she said, is she just stating a fact, or is she disrespecting Monumental Sports, Pollin, and/or the Mystics fanbase? One Mystics fan certainly wasnt pleased, but we dont think Taurasi meant to say anything bad about them. (This is Albert posting here, and I dont really think much of it at all to be honest.) swishappeal/2014/9/14/6150487/diana-taurasi-disrespects-the-mystics
