If youre a female who has walked or jogged or been stopped in your car at Tower Rd. and Roselane today or during the past two days by the sign holder guy working with the road crew, please dont let his name-calling go unreported. Have your camera ready when you get to the intersection so you have proof. We have a right to be on the street withOUT harassment. Two friends who work at a medical bldg told me they walked past him yesterday and he made woofing and barking noises, but they didnt engage him because they didnt have time and didnt know what to do about it. I understand; why report it when we know theyll deny it and will just be reprimanded by their supv. with a hey man, dont do that. Two days ago, when I jogged past that intersection, sign man asked if he could borrow my sunglasses. Thinking it was just bored banter, I politely indulged him in conversation for a moment then made an excuse to go on. The next day, I went by without looking at either sign man, or saying anything. After I crossed the road, sunglasses guy yelled out the b word. I kept going and didnt look back. This sort of treatment has gone on for decades and decades, and, after all, theyre not robbing, beating or raping us; its just words. But lets flip it for a minute. Suppose youre a man whos walking through the halls of Kennestone hospital, looking straight ahead. After you pass by a nurses station a female nurse youve never met yells out: A$$hole! Do you think shed keep her job? Is it different because its outdoors? If so, then it would be okay if a female lifeguard at a community pool yelled crude or obscene names at the men who walk by her, right? No, shed lose her job too.....as she SHOULD. So, why do we all overlook it, and do nothing about it when a male whos employed by the city or county or a private entity yells out the B word when women pass? Why are these male employees held to such a low standard?
