The Creation & Completion exercises were adapted from Jamgon Kongtruls The Essential Points of Creation and Completion That Will Benefit the Beginner Who Has Entered the Path , or as it is known more colloquially, The Essential Points of Creation and Completion. The root text was written by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, meaning Jamgon Kongtrul the Great, sometime in the earlier part of the 19th century. The text was meant as a guidebook for beginning meditators to sadhana practice, or Tibetan Buddhist visualizations. Throughout the text, Jamgon Kongtrul takes the reader through the process of cultivating a visualization, perfecting it, and then allowing it to dissipate, while still keeping the seed of that visualization present inside the practitioner in post-meditation. For artists, the practice is tailored to work with a wide array of emotions, giving the practitioner the opportunity to cultivate subtle emotions, allow them to become clear and accessible, and then willing them to dissolve without losing the newly formed connection to that emotion. For the artists practicing these exercises, previous knowledge of Buddhism, or even a commitment to being a Buddhist, is not required or necessary.
