If youre interested in building a lean, muscular physique, then HIIT (high intensity interval training) should be the most prominent type of cardio included in your routine. It has been proven to be more beneficial for long term fat loss & muscle retention when dieting. Whilst moderate intensity steady state cardio can be effective in the short term for a decent calorie burn, your body can quickly adapt to these efforts & rapidly begin to rely on them. HIIT is all about intensity. Not speed. Work periods should be VERY difficult. Go ALL OUT; as fast as you can possibly go with as much resistance as you can possibly handle. You should be begging for your rest period. Theres no need for hour or two of mind-numbing boring steady state style activity on your favorite cardio machine. Its a poor way to allocate your time in pursuit of physique development. Not to mention, HIIT is far more time efficient; max gains in minimum time. Ill be honest. I dont like cardio, so Im all for reducing the amount of time I have to do it for. Try anywhere from 15-30 seconds worth of max intensity effort followed by 1-3 minutes of recovery. Start with 6-10 intervals per session & tweak accordingly from there, in accordance with your progress. Hit me up if you still arent quite sure how to implement the above into your routine (hint - do so slowly). Simply shoot me a message with an explanation as to why achieving your health, fitness & physique goals is so important & we can go from there. Id love to help.
