If youre wondering why the United States suddenly renewed diplomatic relations with the country of Cuba, the reason is almost always as simple as you think: OIL! In October 2008 the Cuban government announced the possible discovery of over 20 billion barrels of crude oil hidden deep beneath the ocean off its coast. If that number is even remotely accurate, Cuba holds one of the top 20 untapped oil reserves in the world. In 2010 Cuba began leasing blocks of its oil territory to other countries to begin drilling and extracting the oil, since it lacked the proper equipment to handle such a large scale operation on its own. Several countries immediately came on board, including Russia and Venezuela. China wasnt far behind. Interestingly, since 2009 American oil drillers along with their Republican backers have been pushing the US government to loosen its hardened stance against Cuba, in order to allow US companies to participate in those lucrative drilling contracts. Under the guise of protecting American waters from any potential oil spills, of course. But the Democrats running Congress along with the new Obama administration were reluctant. That is, until the midterm elections of 2014 returned the Congress to Republican control again. Suddenly Obama changes his stance against Cuba...for diplomatic reasons...and now were about to become buddy-buddies with the same regime weve been attempting to wipe out for the past 50 years! Never underestimate the persuasive power of the almighty dollar! When the bible says that money answers ALL things, it wasnt kidding. Apparently it can even mend broken foreign relationships between so-called free nations and so-called dictatorships. And just to throw one more curve ball into the mix: remember several months back when Jay Z and Beyonce caught flack for visiting Cuba on vacation? Google it for more clarity. I knew then that something was about to change with Cuba. My guess is they overheard there was about to be a major change in our relations with Cuba, and they went there to beat out the competition for future investment opportunities. Watch as the investment money begins to flow into Cuba from America. Ill wager anything that Jay and Bae end up buying up some Cuban property soon. 40/40 Club Havana style!
