If youve shopped for health insurance on HealthCare.gov, youre probably familiar with how the Metal plans work — there are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze coverage levels that offer different benefits for a different cost. Lawmakers this year proposed adding a fifth tier, a Copper plan, that would supposedly be more affordable than the others. The problem? Obamacare outlawed coverage that doesnt pay at least 60 percent of a persons medical bills. Junk insurance, with its sky-high deductibles and meager benefits, is very profitable for insurance companies. And as our Health Care Columnist Wendell Potter says, these plans only seem affordable because they dont take out-of-pocket expenses into consideration.
