“If you’re concerned that somehow illegal immigrants are a drain on resources and forcing, you know, Americans to pay for services for these folks, well, every study shows that’s just not the case,” Obama claimed. “Generally, these folks don’t use a lot of services, and my executive action specifically is crafted so that they’re not a drain on taxpayers; instead, they’re going to be paying taxes, and we can make sure that they are.” *** I would be curious to hear the President explain what he thinks are services. Any person physically in the United States use a lot of services, be it public education, sewage, police protection, paramedics, electricity for street lights, etc.Any person, regardless of legal status. So the statement that these folks dont use a lot of services is disingenuous. It makes it seem that they are just poor peasants living off the land and never, ever collect an EBT dime - which is untrue. Now, do illegal immigrants use more? Perhaps so. As an example, when I would haunt the family law courts of the Inland Empire, a judge often had to disrupt their management of the courts when the county interpreter showed up, putting cases aside to address there and then those cases where the litigants did not have a sufficient command of the English language. I do not know if these folks were illegal; I do know that many, based on their testimony, had resided in the US for some time and never bothered to learn English. Indeed, walk into any DMV in California and note in how many languages you can take a drivers examination. All of this costs money - taxpayer money - so when it comes time to register your auto or pay for a filing in court, do not be shocked at the $400+ fee. That being said, I still think we need to return to the time when immigrants were sponsored by citizens, just as my grandfather was when he came to America. I know people who do not have legal status - good people, ethical people, people who would be a great asset to this country and I would sponsor them in a New York minute. But please, stop the lies about how opening the borders will cost us nothing because even if they all entered the country legally, it will bear a price.
