If you’re joining us today in reading Isaiah and Jeremiah - TopicsExpress

If you’re joining us today in reading Isaiah and Jeremiah today’s reading is Jeremiah 22:13-23:8. The devotion is taken from Jeremiah 23:1-4. “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!” declares the LORD. Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to the shepherds who tend my people: “Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done,” declares the LORD. “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number. I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing,” declares the LORD. Today I like take a moment to think about those who spiritually lead us. They carry with them and awesome responsibility that we may or may not understand. James 3:1 says this “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” We need to continually pray for those who lead God’s flock. Those who feel called to lead the men and women of God will not only incur a stricter judgment but they may also incur Satan’s temptations in greater abundance. Satan loves nothing more than taking a person down who has dedicated himself to God’s work. By destroying this person’s ministry he accomplishes two things. The first is that he has destroyed a servant of God and the second he may be able to use this destruction to publicly ridicule God, Christ, and Christians in general. The priests in Israel during Jeremiah’s time were mainly corrupt. That doesn’t mean that there were not those who were walking with God. However, the majority of them bought into the religiosity of the day and were leading the sheep of Israel astray. Today’s world is no different. We have some loud voices that proclaim messages that are not consistent with God’s word or his desires. People who call themselves spiritual leaders are really wolves in sheep’s clothing. Pray for your pastor, staff members, and workers in your church that they might be protected from the wiles of Satan.
