Ill never forget the woman who came to the airport just to see if she could help anyone. On 9/11 I was on an airplane on my way home from Alaska (which was a spectacular trip, btw), but was grounded in Salt Lake City like dozens of other planes. I was the first person to stand outside a closed shop and peer through the chain-gate thing and see the news of the towers on fire. Soon others joined me. Then dozens. Ill never forget the collective gasp and horror from the crowd as the first tower collapsed. At that point it was all too much for me to deal with, so I went and found a corner by myself and tried to relax. Then all the TVs in the airport went off. Then came the armed guards and ushered everyone out of the airport. All of the rentals cars were snapped up in minutes, and all of the bus tickets were sold out. So there I sat with nowhere to go. Until I saw this woman just walking around and asking people if they needed help. Long story short, she took about 12 people home with her (including me) and let us stay in her house for as long as we needed. She even gave me $200 for a bus ticket and I finally made it back to Arkansas after about 4 days of dealing with all that mess. The guy sitting next to me on the bus had the flu, so I ended up catching it as well and spent the next 2 weeks sick. It was all horrible ordeal, but I was alive and safe at home. I havent forgotten 9/11 and what the Islamic extremists did that day.
