Ill never forgot the day at the airport that changed my life. There I was waiting to pick up a friend when I saw a family of 3 kids and a wife who were anxiously awaiting someones return. Then I heard it, daddy, daddy, as the childrens eyes lit up. The man approaching was carrying two bags and had a huge smile on his face. The oldest son, around 9 years old, went running into his arms and said, I missed you so much dad, to which he replied, I missed you too son, youre getting so big. Eventually he loosened his grip to give his younger brother a chance to hug his dad. The younger brother was about 5 years old and jumped up off the ground into his dads arms as tears of joy started coming down his face. The dad consoled him and said, theres no reason to cry son, Im not going away again anytime soon. While his son was still in his arms the youngest child, his 2 year old daughter, ran up and wrapped one of his legs in a bear-hug as she screamed, daddy daddy. After a couple of moments his kids loosened up their grips as he handed them to their older brother. He then said, Ive saved the best for last, as he locked eyes with his wife. He proceeded to give his wife the longest, most passionate kiss Ive ever seen. He gazed into her eyes and said, I love you so much. They then stared at each other, with ear to ear smiles, while holding each others hands. I was amazed to be in the presence of such unconditional love but admittedly I was slightly confused. There was no way they were newlyweds with their kids being that age. So I asked... How long have you guys been married? He replied, weve been together for 15 wonderful years and married for 12 of them, as he continued to gazed into his wifes eyes. I then asked, well how long have you been away? Two whole days, he said. Two days? I was amazed. Amazed that after that short amount of time, this excitement was still there. I said to them, I hope that when Im married for 12 years that its still passionate. The man suddenly stopped smiling and finally unlocked eyes with his wife. He then locked eyes with me, with forcefulness that burned through my soul, and said something that change my life. He told me, dont just hope.....decide! There are so many instances that we hope to do something but never actually make the necessary steps to make it happen. Its because we hope, but we dont decide. We hope to have a great marriage. We hope to have an enjoyable profession. We hope to make more money, have better relationships, etc. When you decide that your life will be a certain way, your life will have no choice but to start looking that way.
