Ill start by saying that I am COMPLETELY inexperienced. I day hike lots but Im venturing out for my first overnight shortly. I read everything I possibly can find. It helps. Its not the same as real experience, I know. But Im going with a group that knows what they are doing and are willing to help me out. Ive already asked them a bajillion questions. I dont want to worry them with just one more... So Im asking you... How important is a footprint for your tent? I cant find the answer online anywhere. Thinking of car camping, we use a tarp for extra protection. But I dont think its necessary. We just do it. But what about backpacking? Is it necessary? For waterproofing or is it to protect the fabric? I read that throwing down a sheet of tyvek is a great alternative to a $45 footprint. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance!!!
