Ill tell you what. People say things like, Come on, its only one kick, and All that money they earn and they get stressed taking a penalty? And, Jeez, man! Cant they get it on target?!. The tension they feel and the and stress those players are under in front of all of those people walking up to that ball and placing it on the spot is palpable. And Brazil havent been the best they can be, but they have the weight of expectancy of an entire country on their shoulders at probably the most controversial, exciting and competetive World Cups ever. I never missed an important penalty when I played. I put the stress aside, didnt worry which way the keeper might go, I made up mind and stuck it where I told myself I was going to. Winning formula. But I only had the weight of expectancy from 10 other hungover blokes on a Sunday morning, half of which had a cigarette hanging out the side of their mouth. In fact, I had more to fear actually scoring a penalty for some teams. Like the punch in the face I got for scoring the winning one in a cup semi-final. Isnt that right, Simon Flowers?!
